Northside Rebellion

about

This song had an unlikely start--a painting I made using algae on watercolor paper that I painted sitting along Oak Creek in Sedona, AZ circa 1999. The full title was " A Summer Scene at the Northside Rebellion". The name popped into my head as I worked on the piece and it stayed in my head. Then in 2006 I sat down and made up a song with this title as the inspiration. I'd been recording at home for a few years but didn't have a proper drum set yet, so this one was played with a snare drum, hi-hats and an empty 5 gallon water bottle, and it sounds like it:) I've always had a soft spot for this messy thing and the time felt right to throw it out into the world and see if it catches an ear or two.

lyrics

Northside Rebellion

A summer scene at the Northside rebellion in greens
and in the background a glimpse of renewal indeed
we're coming back at night attuned to the sound
the only thing that could keep is down is our minds
we see through the dark shadow they cast
looking forward and letting go of the past
we found a source of the brightest light we can know
and now it moves with us wherever we go

giving the process time
straight through the stratosphere out of the atmosphere
pulling the self in line shake up the status quo reclaim the world we know

the fake parade showing off for a nation in grief
behind the door there's a deal made in death for greed
and through the long days and nights of our lives
we can reject the distortion and open our minds

giving the process time
straight through the stratosphere out of the atmosphere
pulling the self in line shake up the status quo reclaim the world we know
let inhibition go I want to see it through no matter what they do
let information flow open the channel wide fight on for those who've died

northside rebellion, a summer scene is all you get
